The General Assembly has a wide range of councils and one of the Councils at the sharp end of the work is the Ministries Council. This is responsible for a range of issues facing the ministry today and has a challenge to find more people to take up the ministry. They have launched this year at heart and Soul a decade of ministry where they plan to really encourage more younger people to consider the Ministry as a vocation and career.
The current Church is facing shortages of ministers and many Churches take much longer to find a replacement when thier Minister retires or else moves to work in another parish. The work of the caring arm of the Kirk is known as Cross Reach. It has a large number of homes for the elderly and indeed for those who suffer from dimentia and alzheimers. the costs of this work increase each year as does the need for places and although the work is done hand in hand with local authorities it is still closely related to the Kirk and indeed much funding comes from the Kirk or Kirk people.
come back tomorrow for full report.
